Choosing Your Pumpkin Seeds

Roasted pumpkin seeds make a crunchy and delicious snack that you can enjoy any time.

To get the best results, you need to select the right type of pumpkin and prepare the seeds properly.

Sugar Pumpkin vs. Pie Pumpkin

When choosing which pumpkin seeds to roast, sugar pumpkins and pie pumpkins are great options.

Sugar pumpkins are smaller and often have slightly sweeter seeds.

They are the ones frequently used in pumpkin carvings.

Pie pumpkins are a bit larger and have tender, tasty seeds that are usually used in pies.

Whichever you choose, both offer flavorful seeds that can be roasted into a tasty treat.

Keep in mind that larger pumpkins can also be used, but the seeds may be tougher and require a bit more attention during roasting.

Prepping Fresh Pumpkin Seeds for Roasting

Once you have your pumpkin, it’s time to get the seeds ready.

Start by cutting the top off your pumpkin and scooping out the seeds using a big spoon.

Place the seeds in a bowl of water to help separate them from the stringy bits of pumpkin.

Rinse and drain the seeds well, removing any extra pumpkin debris.

Then, dry them on a paper towel to make sure they roast evenly.

At this point, you can toss them with some oil and seasonings.

Now you’re ready to roast!
