Legacy Bakehouse Expands Product Line with Acquisition of Classic Cookie Brand

Legacy Bakehouse expands into the sweet snacks market by acquiring Mannon Specialty Foods, enhancing its product range and national presence in the baked snacks industry.

WAUKESHA, WIS. — Legacy Bakehouse is stepping into the world of sweet treats by acquiring Mannon Specialty Foods Inc., famous for its beloved Classic Cookie line.

This exciting news, announced on February 5, marks a significant moment for the baked snacks landscape, boosting Legacy Bakehouse’s product portfolio.

Acquisition Details

Though the exact financials of the deal are under wraps, Classic Cookie has been a staple in the cookie market since it launched in 1984.

Hailing from Sevierville, Tennessee, the company is known for its wide array of cookies—ranging from soft-baked delights and energy-infused caffeinated varieties to crispy mini snacks.

Shoppers can find their products at major retailers like Walmart and through various fundraising initiatives nationwide.

Integrating Classic Cookie into its operations not only widens Legacy Bakehouse’s product offerings but also strengthens its footprint across the country.

Founded in 1917, Legacy specializes in various baked goods including pita chips, tortillas, and snack mixes, servicing both well-known and emerging private brands.

Enhanced Production Capabilities

Alain Vallet-Sandre, the Chief Commercial Officer of Legacy, expressed his excitement over the acquisition.

He highlighted how it enhances their capabilities in the baked snacks arena.

This merger enables Legacy to leverage its strengths in contract manufacturing and private labeling while introducing a new sweet snacking category.

As a result, Legacy Bakehouse becomes a more attractive ally for customers in diverse markets.

Classic Cookie operates a sizable 50,000-square-foot baking facility in Sevierville, recently expanded to accommodate its growth.

The acquisition bolsters Legacy’s production capabilities, particularly in cookies and brownies, enhancing its contract manufacturing and private label offerings.

Future Outlook

The Capital Corp., which provided vital advisory services during this deal, pointed out that Classic Cookie stands out as one of the few remaining independent manufacturers of cookies, brownies, and cookie dough in the United States.

Looking ahead, Classic Cookie’s CEO, Jon Mannon, expressed optimism about the future.

He believes that joining forces with Legacy Bakehouse and Benford Capital Partners will bring essential resources, further improving the quality of their products and services for loyal customers.

With this latest acquisition, Legacy Bakehouse now operates three production facilities, including its established plants in Cudahy, Wisconsin, and the assets from Angelic Bakehouse, acquired last July.

Brian Behm from Benford Capital Partners noted the strategic importance of this acquisition, emphasizing how Classic Cookie’s distribution channels are perfectly aligned with Legacy’s current operations.

This partnership not only opens new doors but also symbolizes a promising future for both companies in the dynamic baked snacks industry.
